First in Computing and Electronic Design Automation

The production of this CD-ROM is one of the activities of ACM-SIGDA. SIGDA is a Special Interest Group of the ACM - the major information technology society. SIGDA is committed to advancing the skills and knowledge of electronic design automation professionals and students throughout the world. We do so in a variety of ways: sponsoring and organizing international workshops, symposia and conferences; leading the way in capturing archival electronic design automation publications on CD-ROM; providing travel grants to sponsored workshops, symposia and conferences; pioneering the maintenance and distribution of electronic design automation benchmarks; hosting university and government researchers for software demonstrations at the University Booth at DAC and ICCAD; publishing the SIGDA Newsletter; maintaining a WWW access on Internet; and by initiating the new ACM Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems.

We produce a yearly Compendium CD-ROM which is provided free to our members. We are also in the process of updating our CD-ROM DALibrary so that it is available in a similar format. We expect to put the contents of the DALibrary on the World-Wide-Web later this year.
The SIGDA WWW server is located at http://www.acm.org/sigda. The server contains links to a significant amount of design automation information and to people. For example, you can link from our home page to the home pages of the various design automation conferences. The server also provides the means so that our members can electronically register their own home page so that others know of your design automation interests. Our Newsletter is also available electronically via the server and is continually updated. We are seeking to provide additional WWW benefits to our members.
We presented a successful proposal to the ACM last year to establish the ACM Transactions on the Design Automation of Electronic Systems. The premier issue of journal was January 1996. The journal provides comprehensive coverage of innovative research and work concerning the creation and evaluation of VLSI electronic systems. The journal emphasizes a computer science and engineering orientation. Topics include system design, high-level synthesis, logic synthesis, physical layout, design verification , system reliability, and high-performance circuits. The journal is actively seeking research papers, tutorial and survey papers, and short technical notes. The journal is distributed in hard-copy, electronic, and CD-ROM formats. SIGDA members will receive a significantly subsidized subscription rate. Its WWW site is http://www.acm.org/todaes.
We continue to operate and co-fund the University Booth at DAC and ICCAD. Approximately forty research teams participated this past year. The booth is an opportunity for university and government researchers to display their recent software advances and to interact with visitors from industry. Priority is given to presentations by SIGDA members that complement the conference technical program. Demonstrations that highlight benchmark results are also encouraged.
SIGDA sponsors or is in cooperation with almost all of the major design automation conferences and workshops including this conference. We average more than two such events per month. A SIGDA member receives a significantly reduced registration rate for these meeting.
Our travel grant program provides matching support for worthy SIGDA members to attend sponsored meetings. Approximately twenty awards were made this past year.
